There are a vast number of opportunities to expand your business, whether by taking on new premises, advanced equipment, restructuring or even, perhaps, taking over another business. The one thing all these opportunities have in common is the requirement to have the appropriate funds in place.
ACP Altenburg Advisory (“Altenburg”) is a specialist debt advisory firm that provides a premium debt advisory offering to owner-managed and private equity owned businesses.
The firm was founded by Dan Barrett to provide independent debt advice to corporate clients looking to fund growth and/or change within their businesses.
Dan has extensive experience and a passion for working closely with clients to help them achieve their ambitions. Dan and his business partner Will Senbanjo, also very experienced in the sector, share a belief that only by working closely with an organisation can you fully understand how a business works, and how best to create value.
Typically, they work with businesses that are looking to raise over £2m of debt, whether that be to finance growth, fund assets, buy out a shareholder or restructure their balance sheet. Altenburg are hands on from day 1 all the way through to draw down of the funding. Once they fully understand their client’s situation, their expectations, their challenges, and the nice to haves and need to haves, both on day 1 and for the future, they structure the ask to lenders in the form of a funding memorandum supported by a financial model.
As an independent firm, Altenburg can access the whole of the market to find the most appropriate solution for their clients. Their extensive experience allows them to understand what lenders are looking for and to present high-quality information that answers the key credit questions, with any potential quirks flagged upfront with proposed mitigations. Altenburg often carry on working closely with clients after the initial drawdown of funding to support the business as it grows.
Altenburg are also able to offer broader corporate finance advisory services to their clients, many of whom, they of course, already have an established relationship with from their debt advisory services. They are able to provide advice on topics as widely ranging as financial modelling, forecasting, analysis, and to support ongoing relationships with funders, including further drawdowns of funding.
While they don’t directly advise on M&A, they are happy to help by reviewing and assessing potential acquisition targets, and to work alongside buyside corporate finance advisors (as “one team”) to structure and arrange appropriate debt financing. Also, when the time comes for a client to move on and sell their business, they are able to introduce trusted corporate finance teams who can help them realise the full value of their company.
